Ontime

Ontime makes sense when a production team wants the running order and the clocks to share the same data. Local hosting gives a venue control of its setup, while Cloud removes some server administration for remote preparation. Choose the deployment first, then rehearse how delays, skipped items and crew views behave. The free licence does not remove the need for someone to own the network.

Self-hosted: free; Cloud Pro $20/month and Studio $80/month; currency code not stated

Best For
  • + Production crews building separate presenter, backstage and operator displays from one rundown
  • + Venues or touring teams able to maintain a local production network
  • + Budget-conscious producers comfortable configuring an open-source application
Not For
  • − Organisers seeking registration, payments or attendee networking in the same product
  • − Teams expecting a managed service merely by downloading the free edition
  • − Productions exposing the local server to an unrestricted public network
Key Capabilities
✓ Build running orders with events, groups, milestones and custom department fields
✓ Use the running order to drive stage timers and production clocks
✓ Share operator, cue-sheet, backstage and timeline views
✓ Import running-order data from spreadsheets and Google Sheets
✓ Manage delays and changes to planned timing during a show
✓ Connect control systems through HTTP, OSC, WebSockets or the Companion module
✓ Move project files between desktop, self-hosted and managed Cloud deployments
Honest Limitations

Local deployment needs a network owner

The official network guide says any device on the local network can send runtime commands. View PINs are only a thin layer of protection; plan access at the network level and test firewalls and WebSocket routing.

Choose the connectivity model explicitly

Desktop and self-hosted installations are documented for local production networks. Cloud is an online service. This review has not established a complete disconnected-operation guarantee for every view and integration, so rehearse the chosen deployment.

Old reviews do not describe every current control

InertiaImpact reported successful event use in September 2023 but wanted more individual control over end-of-timer messages. Use that as a rehearsal case; current documentation includes additional messaging controls, so the old request is not labelled an unresolved defect.

Free hosting is your responsibility

The self-hosted application is fully featured, but installation, devices, backups and network support still need resources. Cloud Pro and Studio have different simultaneous-stage allowances; buying hosting does not supply the physical displays.

Pricing Breakdown
Plan Price Details
Self-hosted Free Full application on desktop, Docker or your own server. Your hardware and administration are separate.
Cloud Pro $20/month 3 simultaneous stages, unlimited team members and email support. The public page does not identify the currency code.
Cloud Studio $80/month 10 simultaneous stages, checkpoint/archive features and direct support; confirm billing currency and contract terms.

Hidden Costs to Watch

  • ! Provide host computers, display devices and a suitable local network when self-hosting.
  • ! Confirm how additional or overlapping stages are billed in Cloud.
  • ! Budget configuration and control-system programming; attendees are not the billing unit.

Build a small show with a fixed opening, a flexible speaker slot and a hard finish. Advance it from the operator screen while watching the presenter and backstage views on separate devices. Then deliberately overrun the speaker and inspect what changes.
