Zone4

Zone4 is worth considering when registration, course timing and race results need to work together. Its pricing separates software from equipment and support, and offline timing depends on an optional local Serverbox. Plan the course infrastructure and payment arrangement before estimating the event’s total cost.

US price list: US$1.50 per racer for timing; US$1.50 per registrant plus processing

Honest Limitations

Software is only part of the timing budget

The US list separates per-racer software from chips, timing points, activators, phones and support. Hardware quantities depend on the actual course; registration-plus-timing discounts also need confirmation.

Offline requires the optional Serverbox

The local Serverbox supports timing where internet is unavailable. Its equipment charge is additional, and public live results cannot remain current without a connection to the outside world.

Payment routes are alternatives

Using Zone4’s merchant account, Stripe or Helcim has different fees and operating terms. The help table includes regional and registration-type distinctions; do not combine all processors or assume one universal rate.

Tracking is based on timing points

The vendor describes a course map updated from checkpoint data and recommends relatively short gaps between points. This is not a promise of continuous GPS tracking between checkpoints.

Hidden Costs to Watch

  • ! GoChips, timing points, activators, phones and shipping are separate; weekend chip rentals use multiples of 50.
  • ! Registration and timing used together may receive a discount; obtain the combined quote before adding list prices.
  • ! Payment accounts differ in refunds, payouts and regional availability; confirm current tax treatment.
  • ! Broadcast graphics are separately priced; they are not included in the timing software rate.

Draw the start, finish and checkpoint layout before requesting a quote. Rehearse the local timing setup and result publication with the actual volunteers, and keep registration processing separate from the hardware and staffing budget.

The fit assessment follows documented scope. User reviews are dated individual accounts, and no hands-on product test or vendor interview is claimed.
